My 31st
Posted on | March 30, 2009 | 14 Comments
I’m turning 31 on Wednesday, April 1st. Instead of the typical birthday wishes that I get via email or Facebook wall, I’m asking for something different this time around. If you know me well enough, then I only ask that you say something that you actually like or respect about me in the comments section below.
I know that comes off rather narcissistic, and it’s not meant to be. I figure a nice compilation of comments from my friends and my peers is always a good pick-me-up. It’s always nice to be acknowledged and validated. Besides, I intend to aggregate all the comments as part of a flash animation that I’ll be using for the new personal website I’ll be developing. And of course, if you can’t comment, then just get me a nice gift card from either The Gap or Banana Republic and I’ll be happy as well
I did alot for 30. I grew alot as well. I met some wonderful people at 30. I think 30 may have been my best year yet. Seriously. But I also know there is alot that I haven’t accomplished yet. Some of the things that I did for 30 will help to set a foundation for all the things I hope to accomplish at 31 now. Here’s to my best year yet.

Dean is an amazing individual. Having known him when he was in his late 20′s, I am honored to know all that he has accomplished and the growth of his stewardship in life. He truly has a genuine spirit.

Happy, happy birthday Dean! Been a bit busy lately and so I have been on an unexpected, abrupt electronic silence.
Somehow, I know already what you’re going to tell me if I tell you why I’m on an electronic silence. Which is probably why I’m not telling you. *lol* Because you’ll hit me with a bat again. Hehehe.
The thing I most appreciate about you is how you continue to hold my hand even when you tell me I’m being a nitwit. You continue to cheer me on even when I stubbornly insist on going a different path. You are still there for me and with me when I finally see that, yes, it was stupid of me to choose that path.
Having a friend like you with me on my journeys is just as valuable as having you with me when I finally reach my destination.
Thank you for the gift of friendship.

What do you want me to like or respect about you?
I kind of like that u preempted bday wishes on FB by telling ppl to come here instead & not just say “happy bday dean”, those are a dime a dozen right, but leave comments that reflect ppl’s adoration of u so u can use the comments as flash animation for your new webshrine & of course not for narcissistic purposes but just so u can get the warm fuzzies every time a “DEAN IS AMAZING!” dissolves onto ur computer screen. I mean, I can definitely respect that. It’d be slightly more impressive if u made the request like in the middle of October instead of your bday when ppl are more likely to comply. But still, u got a certain swagger. I like & respect that.
Happy 31st

I like a lot of things about you, Dean. One for the day, as requested, is that you combine an admirable ability to include and connect people with an also admirable determination to be truthful even if that means some people will be include to uninclude and disconnect themselves.
Happy 31st and many more to follow!

Happy Birthday, Dean!
You are a man wise beyond your years … just don’t let the years catch up too fast.
All the best today, and for the coming year.

Happy Birthday, Dean! Here’s to setting FB on fire with your new site. You are truly one of the most dynamic individuals I’ve ever met. Your ability and determination to bring people together for both social and business networking adds so much good will to our society. Here’s to many more years of fun and friendship! Enjoy your special day!
All the best,
Grace
P.S. You’re supposed to say you’re 29, my dear… At least, that’s what they told me.

I met you last year right before the big 3-0. I can’t believe it’s been a full year that we’ve known each other. I admire your adventurous spirit and willingness to branch out and try new things!
Here’s to another year of success and happiness and get togethers!!

Your wish is my command, birthday man. If you haven’t noticed you’re truly unique with your outlook on work, life, and love. I’d be hard-pressed to find another friend who listens to country music while creating magnificent designs and speaking eloquently philosophies of the heart. Here’s to your “Deanism” and all that makes you special. Have a happy celebration of who you are and may you always be surrounded by people who embraces your uniqueness.

I read the part about not leaving the standard FB message after I had already left a FB message. OOPS. One thing that I love about you is your thick skinnedness. I like the fact that you can take a little good natured teasing without getting upset or offended.

Last but not least, I’d like to put in a few words.
The one thing I do admire about you is your ability to persist and remain true to yourself. I’ve known you in your late 20s and celebrated your 30th with you, and you’ve possessed the same strength of character and humor throughout the way. In light of the recessionary economy and the sometimes mundane world we live in, you are a constant – one who lives life to the fullest and is not afraid of showing his cards on the table.
That, to me, is your greatest strength, and may I wish that you remain true to that strength for a very long time.
Happy birthday.
