Rebuilding My Social Network
Recently, I lost my 2 closest friends. One moved away and another due to extreme circumstances.
My other closer friends are now dating other people. I don’t see them much.
It took me about 2 years to rebuild what I have today- a pretty decent social network. Some are close friends, some are friends, and some are acquaintances.
What I’m currently experiencing is quite common. Friends move away, others marry, and yet others fall to the waste side.
Fortunately, I wasn’t so myopic to think that this wouldn’t happen to me.
It would be nice to sit there and say that once you have a group of friends, that you can just rest on your laurels and be content. But it just doesn’t work that way. You always have to go out and meet new people. Shake more hands, do more happy hours, attend more outings, initiate more 1 on 1s, have more phone conversations, and so forth.
But I know I can do it. I have more creative outlets and a decent network to tap into this time. Things will be fine. They usually are.
By the way, they really should teach (social) networking skills in school. It’s a lifelong concept that needs to be learned. Not alot of people are as fortunate as I am to understand this and to continue building. Next thing you know, you’re 35 or 45 or even 55 and feel all alone in this world. What a shame.
