A Poem for 2008 Season

This is something that I wrote on the spur of the moment for a Meetup group that I help run. I thought it was kinda cute and I got alot of positive feedback from people privately.

————————————————

Here I am, writing a poem for this quaint little group.
Read my words carefully, because they are words that I cannot recoup.

You’ve joined this meetup in an attempt to meet new people.
How’s your attempt going so far? Very strong or very feeble?

You’ve gotten older, and your friends have left town.
Perhaps it’s why you joined so that you no longer have that frown?

Or you’re one of a few left in your circle who is still single.
It doesn’t really matter. But only that you’re ready to mingle.

But don’t be fooled. To meet many people you must have a passion.
It must be so strong, that like a black dress, it will never go out of fashion.

So here we are, it’s a new month and a new year.
Are you ready to get out of the house and get over any fears?

Believe me- it takes a lot of hard work to just simply get out.
But do it enough times and it becomes like the love of your life- you’ll simply want to scream and shout!

Whether it’s this Meetup or another, just go do it.
Because if you don’t, the year will end and you just blew it.

Believe it or not, I was once quiet and am still kinda shy.
But I know where happiness lies and that is something that I cannot buy.

My joy lies in people and in people I still do believe in.
People like Tammy, Vanessa, and some girl named Lin.

So as you can see, if a guy like me can do it, then so can you.
As Yoda would say, “There is no try, just simply do.”

It’s a new year and it’s called 2008.
Just go do it and not leave it up to fate.

Like a good party, this poem can simply go on and on.
It comes from within. Some would say that it’s my own personal song.

So are you ready? Have you found your song? Have you found your groove?
If so, then let’s go boogie and bust a move.

[...] A Poem for the 2008 Season. Published on January 16th, 2008. Again, it took me no longer than 30 minutes to write this. I was inspired to write this because I know one of the annual new year’s resolutions of most people is to go out and meet new people and make new friends. Based on my own observation, I felt that most people never quite lived up to this goal. Through my words, I try to express and acknowledge how tough it is to meet new people but how wonderful it can be as well. [...]
